The Tragedy of Amleth, Princess of Denmark

The Tragedy of Amleth, Princess of Denmark

Dream Theatre
5026 N. Lincoln Ave Chicago

Dream Theatre's take on Hamlet recasts Shakespeare's anti-hero archetype in the body of a princess. Upon her return to Denmark for her father's funeral, Amleth discovers that the body of the king has already been buried, the queen has remarried her uncle and her home filled with drunken courtiers and hangers-on. Even the comfort of her lover Ophelia cannot distract Amleth from questioning the world around her. As her story spirals out of control, it heads toward a climactic ending that not even Shakespeare could have imagined.
