Little Triggers Reviews

"...Director Allison Shoemaker quotes the preface to A Christmas Carol in the program, inviting a comparison both inevitable and unfortunate. For while Dickens's novella is as coherent as it is hallucinogenic, Daniel Caffrey's play is frustratingly unfocused. It's never clear why Martin needs the visitations, exactly what the visitors are offering, or why the experience unlocks Martin's dormant artistic side—which, in this production by the Ruckus, makes for two hours of imaginative impenetrability."

"... The best part about “Little Triggers” is anticipating what’s going to happen next. And such is the case with life. The plants sway, the printer is an entryway to another dimension, and in the end one must make decisions. It’s fitting that such a quirky, loveable play is shown at a storefront theater in Rogers Park, where dreams are frequently churned into art."

"...The main problem with little triggers comes down to the writing and direction. It isn’t clear if this is supposed to be a play with Absurdist leanings or if playwright Daniel Caffrey is blending fable and Magical Realism. The play needs to be trimmed by at least thirty minutes and the direction needs to pick up the pace."
