Sodomites!!! A Musical of Biblical Proportions

"...The show revels in the sheer fucked-upness of a story that includes the attempted gang-rape of angels and a human-to-salt transformation, but it's also animated by humanistic outrage at God's arbitrary and homicidal impulses. Featuring a catchy score and witty lyrics by Mike Descoteaux, it's the toe-tappingest blasphemy I've seen in a while."

"...Asmus and the ensemble go out of their way to intelligently offend by questioning many moral aspects of the story, which includes the frequently omitted incestuous ending bit when Lot's daughters (Irene Marquette and Christy Bonstell) get pregnant by their father. Some might feel Asmus goes too far when he personally depicts God (who jokes about raping the Virgin Mary) , but it only fits the out-to-shock tone."

"...Minimal production values (though Emily Candini’s costumes are pretty delightful) keep the focus on the clever script. Michael gives a Sodomite couple a copy of the Bible when he realizes they’re being punished for breaking rules that have yet to be written; when he later says, “He’s doing this because he loves you—unconditionally,” they retort, “Have you read this fucking thing?” It’s a nice lead-in to one of the best numbers, “The Leviticus Rag.” The winning lyric: “This whole book is bullshiticus.” "
