Hizzoner: Daley the First Reviews
Chicago Free Press- Somewhat Recommended
"...we get quick cameos by Jesse Jackson and Jane Byrne, whose political careers benefited from opposing or supporting the mayor. The riots following the King assassination in 1968 and the subsequent Democratic convention get more play, but not enough. What keeps “Hizzoner” compelling despite the script’s Cliffs Notes style is Giuntoli’s full-fledged portrayal. Just watch his face as Daley whirls through emotions during a contentious press conference: Giuntoli is a master actor. (And Gordon Gillespie is a standout in the supporting role of press secretary Earl Bush.) In the end, this theatrical biography—just like the administration itself—promises great things, delivers only some of the time, and wins plenty of admirers anyway."
