Les Miserables

The legendary musical Les Miserables will make its highly anticipated premiere at The Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire.  Preview performances begin February 13th, and the show will run through May 11th, 2008.  Having established a national reputation for launching Broadway musicals into the regional market, The Marriott Theatre is one of only five theatres chosen to produce this epic musical post-Broadway.

Marriott’s Executive Producer, Terry James, said “we were thrilled when we received the call that Cameron McIntosh chose us to be among the premiere productions of this incredible piece.”  Previously, The Marriott Theatre received similar honors with Miss Saigon, Cats, Beauty and the Beast, and The Producers, all presented to critical acclaim.

The sweeping tale of Les Miserables features a book by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg, lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer, and music by Claude-Michel Schönberg.

Based on Victor Hugo's classic novel, Les Miserables travels through three turbulent decades of 19th century France.  Full of romance, passion, suspense and humanity, it is the story of one man, the fugitive Jean Valjean, who is pitted against the self-righteous Inspector Javert in a lifelong struggle to evade capture.  Les Miserables is the winner of over 50 international theater awards, including eight 1987 Tony Awards (two of which were for Best Musical and Best Score). The musical has been translated into 21 different languages, and has been seen by more than 51 million people worldwide.

Les Miserables is directed by multiple Jeff Award-winner Dominic Missimi (The King & I, 1776, Funny Girl, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum).  Musical direction is by Brad Haak, who is currently the Music Director and Conductor of Mary Poppins on Broadway.  Marriott has assembled a stellar cast led by John Cudia as Jean Valjean, and Richard Todd Adams as Javert.

John Cudia, recently seen in Chicago in the title role of The Phantom of the Opera, holds the distinct honor of being the first and only actor to have portrayed both Jean Valjean and the Phantom on Broadway.  Richard Todd Adams was featured on Broadway in The Woman in White and The Pirate Queen. Additionally, he played Raoul in the national tour of The Phantom of the Opera for two years.

Les Miserables also stars Kathy Voytko as Fantine, last seen at Marriott Theatre as Angie in the World Premiere musical Once Upon A Time in New Jersey.  Her Broadway credits include Oklahoma!, Nine, and The Pirate Queen.  She has starred in the national tours of Evita and The Phantom of the Opera. Chris Peluso, who will play Marius, has appeared on Broadway in Assassins and in Elton John's Lestat.  He was also featured in the original company of the national tour of Wicked.  Patrick Cummings is featured as Enjolras. He has starred in regional productions at the Pittsburgh CLO, Kansas City Starlight, and most recently at the Paper Mill Playhouse.  William Solo plays the Bishop of Digne. He was America's first Jean Valjean during the show’s Broadway debut in 1987, and reprised the role in the 1st National Company in Boston, and the 2nd National Company Los Angeles in 1988, receiving the Dramalogue Award.  He also toured the U.S. and Canada with the 3rd National Company in 1995.  Leah Horowitz is featured as Cosette, a role she most recently played on Broadway. She has also appeared in The Woman in White, Fiddler on the Roof, La Cage Aux Folles and Thoroughly Modern Millie on Broadway.  Anne Letscher who will appear as Eponine, was seen in Broadway’s Fiddler on the Roof and has also appeared in several other regional and New York productions.
