Description:

Lyric Opera of Chicago is auditioning male and female dancers with classical ballet experience for its upcoming production of Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg by Richard Wagner. The coproduction of Glyndebourne Festival Opera, San Francisco Opera, and Lyric Opera of Chicago will be conducted in Chicago by Sir Andrew Davis and directed by Marie Lambert, with choreography by Andrew George, assisted by ballet mistress August Tye. Sir David McVicar staged the original production.

Meistersinger requires 1 male solo dancer plus 1 cover, and 6 female corps de ballet dancers plus 1 cover.

Lyric Opera is seeking dancers who appear 20 to 30 years of age. Dancers with a variety of body types are encouraged to attend.

Auditions will be held at the Civic Opera House, 20 N. Wacker Drive.

August 25 Tentative Schedule:
10:00am Registration
11:00am Barre/Warm-up
12 - 4:00pm Audition

Time Commitment:

Rehearsals begin January 7, 2013, with seven performances running from February 8 through March 3, 2013. Dancers must be available for the entire engagement period.

Material To Prepare:

Dancers should bring comfortable ballet shoes and character shoes for class and the auditions. Please make sure to wear simple dance clothes that show the dance line.

All applicants must use the stage door entrance at Wacker and Washington. All applicants must check in and register for the audition before the audition class. A resume and headshot are required to register.

Please be prepared to show a government-issued photo identification card to gain access to the Civic Opera House. All applicants must have valid eligibility to work in the United States. Lyric Opera will not apply for working permits for foreign dancers.
