Lanford Wilson's 1965 masterpiece concerns a typical night at the Renolds family home near San Diego. The small beach house is the backdrop for matriarch Irene, her three children, Owen, Joan and Kenny, and an extended family of Sasha, a local vamp friend of Joan's, and Calvin, a university student who functions as the family's favorite son. When Irene's sometimes-boyfriend Clint, a local bus driver, comes by to report that nearby Sunset Cliffs have collapsed into the ocean, the news sets off a chain of events culminating in a devastating revelation that threatens the family's future.
