Traces Reviews

"...Instead we get semisatirical sketches of hipster hangouts and musings on love and modern life from a folksy busker who also serves as narrator. Though the script is unfocused, Jessica Fisch's staging for Feast Productions has an appealing cast and a handsomely spooky set designed by Emily Tarleton."

"...Traces is a gem of a show that has loads of heart with magical realism and much sardonic comments on modern urban life among the single set. Patrick Budde sets the proper tone while Kristen Johnson and Will Kiley have a marvelous stage chemistry that is winning. Stelle Martin, Sasha Smith and Maximilian Lapine each had fine moments. But director Jessica Fisch and playwright Shannon Pritchard are the real stars here as they combined to create a most worthy play. Traces is one of the finest world premieres I've witnessed in many a moon. Kudos to Feast Productions and Jackalope Theater for giving life to this outstanding new work."

"...Whether you know Tam Lin or not, Traces is a story too good to be missed. It’s a celebration (or an introduction) to a masterful story, but it cleves close to the spirit of the city it was raised in: both the pride and the embarrassments, the glories and the shadows of Chicago and the people who live in it. It will bowl you over with its spectacle, tickle you with its humor, steal your breath with its peril, and give voice to feelings and fears that no other play, to my knowledge, has yet held up. Sharp and tender, Traces is a show to remember, “all of winter’s night, and all of summer’s day.”"
