Scotland Road Reviews
Chicago Tribune- Somewhat Recommended
"...The play, directed by Charles Riffenburg for BoHo Theatre, doesn't quite kick into gear until about 25 minutes in, when the woman finally speaks and challenges this twisted little pisher (Jesse Dornan), and it is their back-and-forth that fuels the drama. That and Hatcher's casual way with menacing comic asides, revealing the ugliness within."

"...The name Scotland Road itself comes from the only passage on the ship which connected first and third class living quarters, and to how third class was sex-segregated, but the other two were not. There’s a lot of interesting information there for the play to convey, but it still struggles to make its premise into a story."

"...Much as BoHo’s excellent, exciting “Veronica’s Room” captivated audiences some seasons ago, Charles Riffenburg’s stunning, well-paced production of Jeffrey Hatcher’s perplexing thriller does so once again. Making great use of the intimate, limited space in the Heartland Studio, this production lays everything directly in the laps of its audience. Just as The Woman is confined and forced to face John’s interrogation, so is the theatergoer. The mystery is relentless; the production intense. There’s no escape."

"...“Scotland Road” is not a well-written play with fully fleshed out characters or even a logical plot, but it is an intriguing play full of unexpected twists. Mr. Hatcher’s intention in writing this tabloid-turned-play is to explore the intangible falsehood in our obsessions. It’s a great concept and one that does lead to some interesting mysteries that will keep you entertained throughout. Despite the textual problems, and the confusing esoteric ending, this is a very strong production with a deeply dedicated cast and it’s definitely worth checking out."
