A Chorus Line Reviews

"...In this fine inaugural season, Paramount is introducing new audiences to such titles as these, and it is offering curious souls the full Broadway-style monty at affordable prices, featuring actors with a lot more experience and depth than you'll find on most tours these days. You do not want to bring to "A Chorus Line" a young person who does not understand what this show is really about — dreams tempered by the agony of so little time and so many ways for them to go wrong, and the way artists must both collaborate and compete and what that does to your head. But Hamilton would never find herself in such a spot."

"... Although director-choreographer Mitzi Hamilton (who was associated with both the New York and London productions of the original) has wisely toned down the snarkiness of the all-powerful, largely in-the-shadows director, Zach (played here with appealing naturalism by Luis Perez, a former Joffrey Ballet principal dancer), the show conforms to the basic parameters. The dancers come in a somewhat greater range of sizes and shapes than usual, but when they put on their sparkly jackets for the final number they generate a remarkable uniformity."

"...Paramount Theatre in Aurora, IL does it again with a remarkable performance of "A Chorus Line". One Singular Sensation it is! Thank you, Tim Rater (Executive Director) and Jim Corti (Artistic Director) for bringing this great show to us. "A Chorus Line" was conceived and originally directed and choreographed by Tony Award winning Michael Bennett way back in the 1970's."

"... One must remember that “A Chorus Line” is not a typical Musical or Musical Comedy. It is a Musical Narrative, a story that comes from the hearts and souls of the dancers who want only to dance and perform and shows what they are willing to do in order to “get the job”. It is a bare bones musical where each member of the cast is not concerned about their costume or their hair or even their make-up and the director/choreographer, Zach ( deftly handled by Luis Perez) who spends much of his time speaking to the others from the audience itself wants them to bear their stories to him as well as their souls."

"...The strength of A Chorus Line is its inherent ability to profoundly affect anyone who has struggled with their dreams and what it takes to achieve them. Leave the boundary-pushing, edgy plotlines to a show with a little more energy and a lot less heart. A Chorus Line is raw and real, but most of all, it’s a distinctive classic, earning its own well-deserved role in a line-up of timeless musical productions."
