Catherine spent years caring for her now-deceased father, a brilliant mathematician and professor at the University of Chicago who suffered from a debilitating mental illness. Feeling alone, she tries to pick up the pieces of her life. Fearing she may have inherited her father's illness, Catherine finds both her world and her mind growing increasingly unstable and is soon caught between Hal, one of her father's former students, and her sister, Claire, who has recently reappeared in Catherine's life.
