Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Picnic was a smash hit on Broadway when first produced in 1953 and has been a staple of regional theatres ever since. Paul Newman made his stage debut in this play and it has been made into a movie several times, including the Academy Award-winning 1956 version, with William Holden, Rosalind Russell and Kim Novak, and a 2000 remake which featured Josh Brolin, Gretchen Mol and Mary Steenburgen in the leading roles.
