Hadestown, the acclaimed Tony Award-winning musical, is coming to the CIBC Theatre in Chicago for a limited run from June 20 to June 25, 2023. The musical, which won eight Tony Awards in 2019 including Best New Musical, tells the story of young lovers Orpheus and Eurydice who find themselves in the underworld ruled by King Hades and his wife Persephone.

The origin of Hadestown dates back to 2006 when songwriter Anais Mitchell created a musical based on the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, which premiered in Vermont. After touring with the musical in 2007, Mitchell turned it into a concept album in 2010. Director Rachel Chavkin and Mitchell reworked the stage production with additional songs and dialogue, resulting in the new version that premiered at New York Theater Workshop in 2016.

The musical blends modern American folk music with New Orleans-inspired jazz and features a cast of actors, dancers, and singers who deliver a poignant and hopeful theatrical experience. Hadestown has received critical acclaim and numerous awards, including four Drama Desk Awards, six Outer Critics Circle Awards, and the Drama League Award for Outstanding Production of a Musical.

The North American touring production of Hadestown includes a talented cast and crew and has received rave reviews. The show's creative team features Tony Award-winning costume designer Michael Krass, sound designer Nevin Steinberg, music supervisor and vocal arranger Todd Sickafoose, and orchestrator Michael Chorney.

Hadestown marks the first time in over a decade that a woman has been the solo author of a musical, with Anais Mitchell writing the music, lyrics, and book. The musical is a must-see for theater lovers and promises a captivating and unique experience.
