Theatre Building Chicago

The Theatre Building Chicago sustained significant smoke and water damage after a fire occurred Thursday morning (April 13), following an apparent electrical/computer surge.   While none of the three theatres on the ground floor were directly affected, the box office and 2nd floor administrative offices suffered extensive damage. Despite the fire, Theatre Building Chicago retained its 'never-ending season" reputation with uninterrupted performances and rehearsals of five current or upcoming productions this past weekend!

Thom Van Ermen (TBC's Operations Manager) was first on the scene minutes after the blaze began, stopping short what could have been a catastrophic inferno. The fire originated from an office rented by the Illinois Theatre Association, which received the most damage. Additional damages include a gaping hole in the roof and smashed windows in the front office and skylight, due to post-fire rescue efforts.

Restoration of the administrative offices, storage and conference room are now underway.  Cleaning, repairing and repainting of common areas such as restrooms and lobby will occur throughout the summer, targeted for completion before Theatre Building Chicago's 13th annual STAGES, a festival of new musicals (Aug. 11-13).  Assistance with restoration would be greatly appreciated. Tax-deductible donations may be sent to 1225 W Belmont Ave.-Chicago, IL 60657, care of Theatre Building Chicago.
