It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play

American Theater Company
1909 W Byron Chicago

This annual recreation of a 1940s radio broadcast of It's a Wonderful Life has become a Chicago holiday tradition. And after 12 years, that tradition just got better. This year, under the first-time direction of PJ Paparelli, the show will include new Foley sound effects and vintage 1940s-style commercial breaks. Adapted from the classic Jimmy Stewart-Donna Reed film, It's a Wonderful Life takes us back to Bedford Falls, where down-on-his-luck do-gooder George Bailey meets an angel who shows him the heartwarming truth about the crucial effect he has on the lives of those around him. To bring the show to life, American Theater Company transforms its intimate space into an actual 1940s radio studio, where actors will take to the microphones in period wardrobe and perform for both the (fictional) listening public and the (real) live audience. Bring the kids and capture the true holiday spirit. Free milk and cookies are served after every performance.
