"...But neither the era nor the younger Youngers feel fleshed out or authentic here, and White's additions either rehash Hansberry or descend into schmaltz. The script's shortcomings are often masked in Definition Theatre Company’s buoyant production by a strong cast under the direction of Alana Arenas (a fine actress in her own right), who creates an atmosphere of warmth and resilient high spirits."
Time Out Chicago- Somewhat Recommended
"...White's dialogue is snappy, often comical, and well delivered. The play has worthy comments on systematic oppression, soulful monologues, and some particularly insightful moments when an Irish immigrant is brought into the fold. Yet it begins to struggle against the reality that we’ve heard all this before."
Theatre By Numbers- Recommended
"...In a way, this play becomes an episode of “Friends”, if that show were predominantly African-American, set 70-some years earlier, and a drama. Friends/neighbors come in and out, entertain, query, and add their support, then leave. But, when they are needed most, they stick around. Red (played by Julian Parker) works with Walter at the railroad. They hang out and read the results of boxing matches together for fun. They share little traditions, including a unique way to toast prior to drinking Red’s own homemade gin."
