Beyond the Garden Gate Reviews
Chicago Reader- Highly Recommended
"...Director Stefan Roseen brilliantly incorporates numerous storytelling elements into the show; the puppets and silhouettes made this almost a dark mirror of the Hershel and the Hanukkah Goblins production I saw last year. Performances are good across the board, particularly Jasmine Robertson’s excellent turn as the Watcher, as well as the entire company of goblins slinking and slithering alongside the Morrigan."

"..."Beyond the Garden Gate" is a dark and twisted PG-13 fairy tale that will appeal to those with a taste for mythology, the supernatural, fantasy and horror."

"...At 90 minutes without an intermission, the play itself slips by, and left me thinking there was enough crammed in there that it could easily serve as the framework for a novel. Writer Mallory Swisher clearly loves the material and thought about it in depth, though the end did feel a little quick, given the number of reveals that stack on top of each other in the last ten minutes or so. Despite the presence of a few plot holes, this show is more about the feeling and experience of magic, and joining the characters on their journey, then detailed explanations on how they get out of it."

"...Impostor Theatre Co.’s newest production is a sight to make your skin crawl, but you won’t be able to look away from the spectacle. Beyond the Garden Gate (written by Mallory Swisher and directed by Stefan Roseen) will appeal to anyone who built fairy houses as a child or loved the classics of Hans Christian Andersen and the Brothers Grimm—anyone who relished the idea of other worlds where magic is a powerful, but often dark, presence."

"...In “Beyond the Garden Gate,” the team effort is apparent, and every member of The Impostors’ cast and crew play an integral role in the production. The result is a chilling children’s fairy tale made for adults that takes you on an adventure through the liminal spaces between dream and waking."
