1980 (Or Why I'm Voting For John Anderson)

Pay: $500 stipend

Description:

JTC seeks submissions for the character of WILL for the world premiere of 1980 (OR WHY I'M VOTING FOR JOHN ANDERSON) written by Patricia Cotter and directed by Associate Artistic Director Kaiser Ahmed.

It's 1980 and an unknown congressman from Illinois, John Anderson, just might have a chance to be President of the United States. In the candidate's Boston campaign office, four idealistic young campaign workers struggle to spread the hope that their long-shot candidate might bring to the country and to their lives, while staving off that era's Unthinkable Presidency. 1980 (Or Why I'm Voting For John Anderson) pits youthful optimism against the status quo, in a world premiere comedy about class, race, and the politics of change.

Seeking African-American, late 20s/early 30s.

Character Description: Will Moore. African American, male. Late 20s/early 30s. Bright, focused, realistic about John Anderson's chances, but a believer. He has a healthy ego. From Evanston - he has never quite experienced Boston's particular brand of racism. He grew up in an upper middle class educated family, an only child. The look and feel of a young Barack Obama.
