Originality is dead. And so is John Lennon... maybe. Corn Productions' newest comedy explores a day in the life of May, a struggling artist who accidentally summons the ghost of John Lennon into her apartment. This production will feature live music, dance, drag performances and lots of Beatles references. Written and directed by Kallie Noelle Rolison. Corn Productions is a practicing member of NOIH.
Looking to cast actors of all ethnicities, adult ages and body types. Those auditioning for the role of John Lennon need to look and sound close to the real deal. Those auditioning for Christian are preferred to have professional or amateur drag experience.
Character descriptions:
MAY - a 20-30-something painter who is exhausted and depressed
JOHN LENNON - the famous Beatles member in ghost form; guitar/singing skills a plus
CHRISTIAN - May's roommate; barista by day, drag queen by night; must have fierce lip-syncing and dance skills
CAROLINE - May's co-worker and friend; singing/musical skills a plus
TODD - May's co-worker; a weird guy with little social skills
APRIL/FISH GIRL - May's sister/chorus member; must have lyrical/modern dance skills; singing/guitar/ukulele skills a plus
FISH GUY/GEORGE HARRISON - chorus member/ghost of George Harrison; must play guitar and/or ukulele; singing skills a plus
Rehearsals begin Wednesday, June 7th.
Tentative rehearsals will be Mon/Tues/Wed from 7-10pm, and Saturday/Sunday mornings. Rehearsal schedule will be determined upon casting.
Tech will be July 8th-13th and is mandatory for all actors.
Performances will be July 14th through August 12th, Wed-Sat at 8pm at Cornservatory (4210 N Lincoln Ave, Chicago IL 60618).
Please prepare a 1-minute comedic monologue. For those wanting to audition for the role of John Lennon, please be prepared to deliver that monologue in your best John Lennon voice. Additionally, if you wish to be considered for one of the roles that requires singing and/or musical instrument playing, please prepare a 1-minute piece either a capella or with your instrument accompaniment. If you wish to be considered for the role of April, please prepare a 1-minute movement piece - we will be able to play audio through any device with a headphone jack.
