Akvavit Theatre seeks actor submissions for 1 lead role and 2 understudies for their upcoming production of "Hitler On The Roof" by Rhea Leman, directed by Kirstin Franklin and Amber Robinson. About the play: Hitler On The Roof is a US premiere play for two clowns, portraying the Nazi propagandist Dr Joseph Goebbels and filmmaker Leni Riefenstahl. Doomed to a perpetual afterlife in which to confront their pasts, locked deep down inside the Führerbunker, the two engage in cunning feats of denial, manipulation, and pure slapstick. A favorite of audiences and critics alike, Hitler On The Roof's original production toured Denmark for two years with the company Folketeatret, winning the prestigious Reumert award for Best Leading Actress. The English language version is scheduled to tour Europe in 2017, and Akvavit is thrilled to produce its US premiere.

-Both characters will be performed by the opposite or non-binary gender.
-The role of Leni will be played by Jay Torrence, but we are seeking an understudy with guaranteed performances.
Actors with clowning experience are highly encouraged to submit.
Akvavit wishes to see actors of any ability, race, age and gender identity and is committed to casting inclusively.
Auditions will be held at North Park University, Carlson, Room 33.
Rehearsals will begin mid-May, with performances running June 22 - July 9 (possible extension through July 16) Thurs-Sat 8pm and Sundays at 3pm. Performances will take place at Strawdog Theater (Formerly Oracle and Signal Ensemble's space) at 1802 W Bernice in Chicago.
Actors will be provided with a draft of the script and sides to prepare for the audition. Actors who have a solo clown piece prepared (under 5 minutes) are encouraged to perform their piece at the audition. Not required, but welcome!
