Description:

Attention good people of Chicago and surrounding areas! The Drinking & Writing Theater is on the lookout for some new ensemble members.

The Drinking & Writing Theater, founded by Neo-Futurist alumni, exists to preserve the spirit and devotion of the hard drinking writer and to uphold the rituals of their creativity and passion for the written word.

There are three parts to the first round of submissions, please read the directions, and if you have any questions or are confused by anything, do not hesitate to email me and ask.

PART I

Please attach a one page writing sample. We are looking for personal, honest, funny, tragic, nuanced, straight-forward, creative, original material. Something that you feel represents your voice, perspective, and style.

Part 2 & Part 3 of the submission must be filmed.

PART II

Please answer the following questions:

1.What do you hate about auditioning?
2.Which literary figure strikes your fancy, and why?
3.What does the concept of drinking & writing mean to you?

PART III

We want you to recite one of the following poems verbatim, interpreting the meaning through your own perspective.

Thinking outside of the box is encouraged.
Originality is encouraged.
Indulging is encouraged.

"Always be drunk. That is all: it is the question. You want to stop Time crushing your shoulders, bending you double, so get drunk militantly. How? Use wine, poetry, or virtue, use your imagination. Just get drunk." - Charles Baudelaire, 1869

"...the worst hangovers are when you awaken in your car or in a strange room or in an alley or in jail. The worst hangovers are when you awaken to realize that you have done something absolutely vile, ignorant and possibly dangerous the night before, but you can't quite remember what it was. " Hangovers, Charles Bukowski.

Please be sure to include your headshot & resume with your submission.

Submissions are open through October 31st.
