The Jades are a newly-launched theatre company focusing on empowering female-identifying artists in Chicago. We are currently casting several remaining roles in our inaugural production, An Almanac for Farmers and Lovers in Mexico by Kate Tarker, directed by Emmi Hilger. The production will run at The Frontier (1106 W. Thorndale Ave). We are looking for actors who move well. Experience in clowning and other physical theatre forms will be very beneficial. We're seeking the following:

PELE: Male, late twenties, Mexican. A little bit wild Byronic hero, a little bit regular guy. Some Spanish required.

JUDGE: Female, in her forties or fifties, Mexican. A determined bureaucrat with modest taste in clothing and behavior. Some Spanish required.

SAN CRISTOBAL: Male or Third Gender. Physically a little older, shape shifty. Born in Greece, but at home in any warm climate. Wears robes with a bit of flair. Some Spanish required. (*NOTE: we are seeking a nonwhite actor for this role. Gender-nonconforming performers are especially encouraged to submit.)

A synopsis of the play:
Flora and Pele are so very in love, and just a few days away from their Mexican wedding. Only hitch to getting hitched: Pele seems to have transformed into a bird. Flora is keeping him in a little cage and negotiating with the judge. When her circle of friends arrives, they do their best to help by cooking, theorizing, and falling in and out of love with one another.
