The Laramie Project

Pay: No Pay

Description:

PVPN (Progressive Village Performance Network) presents "The Laramie Project", an intense, thought provoking, haunting drama. The Laramie Project is a documentary-styled play that analyzes the death of 21-year old Matthew Shepard, an openly gay college student who was brutally murdered because of his sexual identity. His vicious murder set off a nationwide debate about hate crimes and homophobia. The play was created by playwright/director Moises Kaufman and members of the Tectonic Theater Project.

The dialogue and monologues which comprise The Laramie Project are taken from interviews, news reports, courtroom transcripts, and journal entries. It is an amazing theatrical collage that explores the depths to which humanity can sink and the heights of compassion of which we are capable.

PVPN is looking for ages 18 up to 80 and beyond to play multiple roles. Those auditioning should be familiar with the script and try to choose a monologue from the play. A PDF of several of the show monologues is available on our website. It is not necessary to memorize the monologue; just be able to read it well. There may be "cold" readings from the script. Appointments will be offered on a first come, first serve basis. Walk-ins welcome, but there may be a wait.
