Description:

Before a crisis occurs in Ukraine, Nataliya leaves her husband, Viktor, and attempts to become an actress in American broadway. Nataliya meets new friends who gives her encouragement as she pursues her dream and becomes involved with the Wizard of Oz musical in Chicago. Meanwhile, the crisis in Ukraine makes Viktor less bitter and he gains a new life perspective before he is killed in the war. When Nataliya hears news of Viktor's death, she becomes hysterical for days. Karyn, Nataliya's first friend in America, helps Nataliya out of her depression, and encourages her to go to the remaining practices before the show debuts. The play ends with Nataliya singing "Over the Rainbow" while she deeply thinks of Viktor and all the memories they have had together.

We are looking for actors and actresses who CAN sing to come and audition for this production. Auditions are on March 7th from 2-5 pm at Three Brothers Theatre (115 N. Genesee St, Waukegan).

Character BIOS
Nataliya - Ukrainian woman in her mid-20s; her dream is to be a starlight in broadway.

Viktor - Ukrainian man in his late 20s or early 30s; he is Nataliya's husband who is a very traditional family man.

Karyn - Asian or Southeast Asian woman in early or mid-20s; she upbeat, outgoing, and straightforward; she knows her place in the entertainment industry but she still wants a lead role someday.

Roy - White or Hispanic-looking man in his late 20s or early 30s; Director of the Wizard of Oz musical; Starts to admire Nataliya after seeing her push herself to be a better actress.

Tristan - a white man in his 20s; a street musician who wants to travel the world; he falls in love with Karyn after a one night stand.

Gaby - a latina in her late 20s; an actress in Spanish soap operas and commercials.

Mike - a gay black man; a make-up artist in the entertainment industry.

Boris - Ukrainian man in his late 20s or early 20s; he is Viktor's best friend who also goes to war.

Miss Hilda Brand - White woman in her late 30s; she is the head director for the Wizard of Oz musical.

Practices: Mid-March to Late-May, 2015 Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursday from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm Dates of Shows: Friday, May 29th, 2015 Saturday, May 30th, 2015 Sunday, May 31st, 2015 (This date may be cancelled; TBD)

Material To Prepare:

For the "Over the Rainbow" Auditions, you must (1) bring in your resume, (2) sing one song acapella (no instrumental accompaniment), and (3) a monologue of your choice (no more than 2 minutes). If you audition for a singing role, please sing one of the songs below in our list of Audition songs. We want to hear your voice and see how loud you can project. If you are auditioning for any specific character, please make sure you sing the audition songs that pertain to that character. Please sing only one verse and chorus of each song, Thank you! NOTE: Most of the audition songs will not be in the musical. They are just examples of songs that are similar to the original music we will have in the musical. The music for the musical will be ready by the first week of rehearsals. ***If you are auditioning for the role of Viktor and/or Boris, you do not need to sing.
