The Book Of Dionysus

Pay: No Pay

Description:

Centuries after the mortals lost faith, the Greek Gods of Mount Olympus have become lazy, self-absorbed socialites who can barely keep their dysfunctional family together let alone reign over humanity. Dionysus, the God of Revelry, thinks Earthlings have become miserable without the Olympians interfering in their lives, and aims to bring back their joy by spreading the ancient Greek religion to the modern day world. After being banished from Olympus and arriving in Chicago, Dionysus sets out to win back the mortals (despite interference from the other Gods) by organizing a massive celebration/music festival known as Dionyroo: A Festival of Mythic Proportions.

BREAKDOWN:

Dionysus - God of Revelry, Wine, and Theatre, protagonist, rebellious son of Zeus, exuberant, always slightly drunk (in a jolly way), wants to spread joy and revelry

Zeus - God of Sky and Thunder, Father of Gods and Men, patriarch of the family, ineffectual leader, notoriously unapologetic womanizer, past his prime

Hera - Goddess of Women and Marriage, matriarch of the family (she's really in charge), Zeus' wife and Dionysus' step-mom, manipulative, jealous, self-serving schemer, upper-crusty elitist, extremely critical of others (especially Zeus' children that aren't hers)

Athena - Goddess of Wisdom, smartest of the Gods, voice of reason (and therefore black sheep of the family), erudite, know-it-all, Dionysus' half-sister and helper

Poseidon - God of the Sea, dorky uncle, kind of lame but thinks he's really cool, wimpy and fragile, easily swayed

Hades - God of the Underworld, Zeus' deadbeat brother who lives in the basement, extremely lazy, rarely leaves the couch, watches Dionysus' journey on TV and acts as half of the Greek chorus

Aphrodite - Goddess of Beauty, vapid socialite, valley girl, completely self-absorbed and narcissistic, watches Dionysus' journey and acts as half of the Greek chorus

All characters will be doubled, with the exception of Dionysus.

Singing ability is a plus.
