The Solstice Ball - A New Musical Reading

Description:

Seeking male and female singer/actors for book-in-hand/book-on-stand reading of a new musical, The Solstice Ball. This is a high-drama, romantic telling of the origins of Count Dracula.

Roles:

Mirela. 20s to early 30s. Pop/legit soprano up to high A with strong mix down through low G (think Disney Princess sound with occasional money notes). Character is sassy, strong-willed, passionate, and vulnerable, haunted by her past.

Vadoma. 20s to early 40s. Alto down to low F with strong mix up to high E. Character is a brassy, sexy airhead with a heart of gold.

Miss Joi. 20s to early 30s. Can convincingly play a character of Asian origins. Alto/Mezzo with strong mix up to Db. Character is severe, fiercely loyal, and confident.

Male characters. Any age. Seeking both tenors and baritones to fill out supporting characters. These will be multi-cast, and each actor cast will play more than one supporting character in the reading. These characters mostly sing in up-tempo numbers, so please select your cut accordingly.

Audition Location: Provided upon appointment confirmation. Chicago, near CTA.

Time Commitment:

Reading performance date is Thursday, 12/11. This is mandatory and non-negotiable. There will be approximately 8 rehearsals in the evenings over the two weeks prior to the reading date.

Material To Prepare:

Prepare one 32 bar cut in an appropriate range based on character breakdowns above. Consider the songbooks of Wildhorn/Webber/Schonberg when selecting your cut. Bring your book in case the casting committee needs to hear more.
