Main Street Opera is in search of fluent Spanish speaking performers for its first Zarzuela production; La Dolorosa by Jose Serrano. There are both speaking and sung roles. There will be a small stipend for roles.

Auditions will be heard on Saturday April 26th starting at 6:00 p.m. at the Henry and Leigh Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University. The performance will take place on August 22 and rehearsals will begin second week of July.

For vocalists we would like to hear a "romanza" from a Zarzuela. If you can't prepare a romanza in the time allotted then please bring a Spanish Art Song, and an Aria of your choice. The audition will include a sung portion, and a cold reading from the show. Actors can opt for doing only a cold reading and a monologue. If you are unavailable for this audition time, please reply with your resume, headshot, and a recording of you singing (preferably in Spanish) or with a monologue (preferably in Spanish) and a performance of your choice ( poetry, personal writing, etc), preferably in Spanish.

Rafael - tenor (lyrical, love interest of Dolores, and young monk)

Dolores - soprano (lyrical, love interest of Rafael, young mother)

Nicosia - soprano (comic soprano, love interest of Perico)

Perico - tenor ( comic tenor, love interest of nicasia)

Prior - bass/baritone

Fray Lucas - baritone

Jose - actor ( father of Perico) - speaking role

Juana - actor ( mother of Perico) - speaking role

Bienvenido - actor (father of nicasia) - speaking role
