Actor Factor Theatre Company announces auditions for The Miracle Workerby William Gibson. The Miracle Worker is a three-act play by William Gibson adapted from his 1957 Playhouse 90 teleplay of the same name. It is based on Helen Keller's autobiography The Story of My Life.
The following characters are being cast: (NOTE: the role of Helen has already been cast).
Annie Sullivan - early to mid-20s teacher of Helen Keller, herself suffering from mild blindness (physically demanding role).
Kate Keller - late 30s-early 40s, Helen's doting mother.
Captain Keller - 40-55 Helen's dictatorial father and head of the Keller household.
Viney - 30-40 African-American servant to Keller family and mother to Percy.
Percy - 10-14 African American boy, son to Viney and Helen's playmate and companion.
James Keller - early to mid-20s, Helen's half-brother.
Aunt Ev - 50-65 Captain Keller's sister, an ever-visiting busy-body.
Anagnos - 45-65 - Annie Sullivan's mentor (may also double as doctor).
Also casting for: Annie Sullivan/Kate Keller understudy - see above for character particulars, and Helen Keller understudy - 13-18 must play believable 11-yr old on stage (physically demanding role).
Auditions will be held Saturday, March 26 from 4:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, March 27 from Noon to 4:00 p.m. at Steel Beam Theatre, 111 West Main Street, Saint Charles, Illinois 60174.
Performances are at Steel Beam Theatre in St. Charles, IL, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from June 10 through June 26. There are also two tentative Thursday performances, June 16 and 23. There is pay.
