A Place In The Woods Reviews
Chicago Reader- Somewhat Recommended
"...In his new play, given a solid if hesitant premiere by Fine Print, he concocts an equally galvanizing family crisis, but no central drama. Septuagenarian Linda is losing her mind and her home, and her Brady, her fuck-up son and caretaker, hardly cares. Estranged, responsible son Shaun arrives with loads of resentment, a troubled past, and his own adolescent son. While the plotting is somewhat formulaic, the characters’ volatile relationships produce many arresting scenes. But each two-person relationship becomes its own subplot, needlessly stalling the build to the climax."
Theatre By Numbers- Recommended
"...Director Patrick Kenney's staging combined with Katie-Bell Springmann's set design created a situation wherein the audience is split in twain by a simple kitchen constructed primarily of white painted cardboard. It is this stark simplicity that calls attention to what is going on between the actors and heightens the importance of the words penned by Erik Gernand."

"...The entire cast was quite engaging with particular fine work by Natasha Tsoutsouris and Jacob Bond, a Evanston High School junior. Bond sure has a nice future as an actor; he is polished and professional beyond his years! A Place in the Woods is most stage worthy."

"...This was my first Fine Print Theater Company production and while it took me too long to figure out their history and mission, the work is admirable. Any company dedicated to exclusively produce new works deserves praise, and working with a talented playwright who is on the rise will only improve their lot."
