Walk Two Moons Reviews
Chicago Reader - Recommended
"...Arvetis's adaptation isn't perfect. Not knowing the novel, I stumbled over occasional holes. And some who did know it were disappointed to find that Arvetis had cut their favorite scenes. But these are minor blemishes on an otherwise fine production."
Centerstage - Recommended
"... Tom Arvetis, Adventure Stage’s founder and Artistic Director, has lovingly adapted Sharon Creech’s Newberry Award winning novel into a moving, straightforward play for all ages. Matthew Reeder skillfully directs a talented cast of nine, who portray all of Creech’s lovable, offbeat characters in a coming-of-age tale of forgiveness and acceptance. Salamanca Tree Hiddle (Sal to her family and friends), narrator of both the novel and the play, drives the action and offers her adolescent insight to the events and the behavior of those around her."
Chicago Theater Beat - Highly Recommended
"... The best children’s theatre takes its young audience’s experiences seriously. Flawlessly adapted from strong source material, Walk Two Moons doesn’t talk down to its viewers. It challenges them to examine their own reactions and emotions, to look outward into a world where everyone suffers but has the immense power to help one another. The show could stand to shave off ten minutes or so: an hour and a half with no intermission and a pre- and post-discussion is a long time for adults and kids to sit still. Despite its length, Walk Two Moons has a poignant, valuable message for audiences of every age. It never preaches. It teaches."
