The Game Show Show... And Stuff!

"...The sweet spot here lies in adding enough action to fill a big stage for a party-minded crowd, but keeping the show's irreverent, outrageous soul intact. At the end of the night, this must be a Chicago-style show for those who hate, yet secretly love, game shows. And with no network police to worry about, "The Game Show Show … and Stuff!" could and should be able to take all the risks it wants."

"... After entering their names before the show, players are randomly selected for games ranging from dead-celebrity trivia to retrieving objects from a bowl of Jell-O using only their mouths. The contests give host Anderson Lawfer and his MC, Zoccoli (a.k.a. Jaz), an excuse to goof off onstage. They’re clearly enjoying themselves as they read aloud sexts received by audience members and watch people chug salsa for $20. Lawfer is an enthusiastic, charismatic host, yet he starts the show off on a bad note by telling the audience the game is so easy “a retarded person can win.” The scripted comedy bits fail to show off Lawfer and Jaz’s talent; the funniest moments come from the audience interactions, when the two men craft spontaneous jokes with ease."

"...The Game Show has been around for some time, but this production, which is scheduled to run through New Years Eve ,propmises to be the right place at the right time- we all need diversion, we all need sexy showgirls, we all need a good laugh and we all need some prime time entertainment at affordable ticket prices- well, boys and girls- this is it."

"... This isn’t the first time that going legit has ruined what was funny about a show; any fan of the HBO series “Flight of the Conchords” can tell you that Season 1, when the musical duo were struggling, is much funnier than Season 2, when they achieve status and fame. I hate to not recommend a show that I’ve seen in other venues and that I know can be funny, so I’ll say this: if you go, bring a crowd, be loud, and be prepared to participate."
