The Diviners is a depression-era fable that takes place during the Dust Bowl of the 1930’s in rural Indiana. It is the story of an unexpected friendship that evolves between a former preacher (C.C. Showers) and a “touched” boy (Buddy Layman) and the help they give each other in order to confront their biggest fears. C.C. arrives in the small community of Zion, looking for work and determined to leave preaching behind. While the small community looks to Buddy to use his gift of divining water to save their crops, they look to C.C. to save their spirits. They both fight against using their gifts and fate takes a tragic turn.
