"..."The Devil is in the Detours" is a stylish show that, as ever, reveals much about where young improvisers are at these days. I tend to mark the changes in the world by these revues, invariably skilled and funny (with few exceptions over the years) but entirely different in aspiration. Long gone is the world where it seemed like everyone (regardless of race or gender) wanted to be John Oliver or the "Weekend Update" anchor. This group is far more explicitly performative, expanding into their spaces and continually looking for heavily physical material (such as singing and dancing Starbucks baristas), rather than tightening their bodies as one often saw happen in the past."

"...Every Second City cast has the latitude to make the scenes that suit its common sensibility, be they farce, stinging satire, interpersonal realness or something unheard of. The team performing the new revue "The Devil Is in the Detours" has a definite vision, and the test will be how many audiences are willing to run with it."

"...This isn’t the strongest mainstage revue I’ve seen recently in terms of overall thematic consistency but the cast is sparkling, adept, and very much in tune with each other and the guest audience participants (including a very game man on opening night who transformed himself into a “supermodel”). And if you need a smart respite from endless idiotic horse-race punditry, this might be just the thing."

"...The Second City's improvisational comedy thrives on its ability to seamlessly engage the audience by incorporating keywords and catchphrases, bringing an element of adaptability and fluency to the performance and adding to the enjoyment of the overall experience. So indulge in an array of outstanding Second City Productions, offering good eats and a wide selection of libations, and enjoy the talented cast of The Devil Is In The Detours."

"...The show is a powerful two hours of laughter with these six doing as many wig changes as I have ever seen in a Second City production. Directed by Rob Wilson with music by Ryan Miera and choreographed by Breon Arzell, the show is one that is highly polished and rehearsed, but one can see some ad-libs throughout the performance and on a few occasions, one or two actors broke up ( audiences love these moments). They handled themselves with style and grace under these circumstances and the audience laughed right along with them."

"...I can't describe much more of the show for fear of undermining your experience of it, but there are brilliant turns by Stafford, Holmes and Bolduc throughout as well. You will never hear the phrase "my lord" without smiling after the latter's Python-esque turn as a royal servant, nor will you think of the term "horse whisperer" the same way again. Stafford, meanwhile, has incredible comedic and singing chops backed by enough energy to be the blazing sun to Ingle's off-kilter moon."

"...The Second City's 112th Mainstage Revue, THE DEVIL IS IN THE DETOURS, promises "weird, sexy comedy" in its opening moments. This ensemble definitely hits on the weird and occasionally hits on the funny. I think this revue, while not always consistently funny, gave this ensemble some real moments to shine. And as with past Second City revues I've seen, the show's mix of sketch and improv has lively energy, and the wide variety of sketches presented made me curious to see what comes next."
