The Clean House

The Clean House

Athenaeum Theatre
2936 N. Southport Chicago

The Clean House is a witty and wry romantic comedy about Matilde, a Brazilian-born live-in maid who'd rather be telling jokes than cleaning houses. Her employer, Lane, seems to have it all: a successful surgeon husband and her own busy career as a doctor. But does she? The New York Times has called playwright Sara Ruhl "a provocative new theatrical voice" and The Clean House "visionary." Directed at Athenaeum Theatre by Luda Solomon, this acclaimed play won the 2004 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in 2005.
