Iphigeneia at Aulis
1579 N. Milwaukee Ave. Chicago
Just before Helen of Troy's face launched a thousand ships, the goddess Artemis ceased all active winds keeping the ships at bay. In an effort to support his brother’s honor, Agamemon is forced to sacrifice his daughter in order to lift this halt on wind. Iphigeneia at Aulis is Euripides’s final tragic saga of a family’s emotional journey through grief and acceptance. In Josh Atlman's re-imagining of Iphigeneia at Aulis, this play is intimate and engaging through the elimination of the choral odes. Infusing the play with live original music and a strong sense of ritual, Lights Out Theatre Company brings a fresh approach to a Greek classic.
