Chicago Reader - Somewhat Recommended

"...Best friends--one gay, one straight--fall out when the straight one sleeps with another guy. Any of these stories might be enough for a play. But Samuel Hunter packs all of them into his 2007 script without fully developing any of them. Hunter's got a handful of meaty scenes, most of which Rachel Edwards Harvith's astute Mortar Theatre cast put over convincingly. But the whole is less than the sum of the parts."

"...Without meaningful motivation and plausibility, this strange play is much too convoluted and manipulative to be worthy. It seems to try to be a protest against Valumart (Walmart). But the how and why of this senseless work is both unfocused and poorly constructed. The acting is as flimsy as the script. I’m dumb-founded as to why a theatre company would produce such dribble. Skip this one."

"...Garza, Harper, and Nordmark have a great chemistry throughout the production, each knowing how to alternatively console and berate the others. Nicholas Roy Caesar also does fine puppet work as Valupig, Valumart’s porcine mascot. Harper obviously has a stronger connection to the giddy Tommy than to the hardened convicts that filled Under America. The timing and vulnerability of the cast are what really bring the production home."
