"...This adaptation, given a disjointed staging by Emerald City Theatre, has one stroke of inspiration: presenting the pigeon, feather-free, as a wised-up if goofy young man, played by the magnetic James Anthony Zoccoli. But Zocolli can't sustain the whole show, which is unnecessarily repetitive and takes an overtly didactic stance that Willems wisely avoids. The production felt overlong to me at 60 minutes, and kids in the audience were squirming by the 40-minute mark."

"...Watching the kids in the audience at this show was almost as rewarding as watching the show itself. They responded to all of the requests by the actors and began clapping to the songs without any requests- they were into it. It is a delight for the children, the parents and yes, the grandparents- what a perfect way to spend some time with lessons to be learned as well. Things like not staying up to late, not trying to do things that you are not allowed to do, sharing and being kind to others- learning these lessons while having a great time- who could ask for anything more. One can see that a lot of work went into making this a solid production, one that will start these youngsters off in wanting to see more “live” theater. "...Emerald City always has fun activities and props for the kids. Duckling was on hand before the show to put ketchup, mustard, relish, and onions (sticker dots) on paper hot dogs. The characters are available for pictures and autographs after the show as well. I recommend this show for kids 3 and up who have read the “Pigeon” series. It’s a fun and smart way to introduce theater to very young children. (It was also a great way to resolve my Garfield Goose issues!)"
