Direct from co-starring as "Grandma" in the new musical, The Addams Family, acclaimed New York comedic actress (and hilarious holiday-hating Hebrew) Jackie Hoffman will debut her Whining in the Windy City: Holiday Edition, a no-holds-barred original musical comedy rant about showbiz, not-so-charming children, and of course the holidays, in four performances only at the Royal George Cabaret, 1641 N. Halsted, Monday evenings, November 30 - December 21, at 7:30 p.m. Deliciously directed towards audiences 18 and older.
Not for the faint of heart or those easily offended, Hoffman promises to skewer everything that is Merry with her biting, fearless stand up comedy and original songs. A cash bar will be available for those looking to steady their nerves but don't even bother requesting eggnog, mulled apple cider or any other such holiday drink!
"I can't wait to return to Chicago, where so many people who came up the same time as me are much more famous. I'm gonna really let 'em have it now," said Hoffman.
The dynamic Jackie Hoffman will co-star as "Grandma" in the World Premiere engagement of The Addams Family at Chicago's Ford Center for the Performing Arts Oriental Theatre, November 13, 2009 - January 2010, followed by the musical's Broadway debut in April 2010. Hoffman's other Broadway appearances include Xanadu and Hairspray (for which she won a Theatre World Award), while off-Broadway credits include Regrets Only, The Book of Liz (Obie Award), Straightjacket, Incident at Cobbler's Knob and One Woman Shoe. Among her popular one-woman cabaret shows are Scraping the Bottom, Jackie with a Z, Chanukah at Joe's Pub (Bistro Award), and The Kvetching Continues.
As versatile as she is verbal, Hoffman was a member of the Second City ensemble here from 1987-1994 (alongside Stephen Colbert, Steve Carell and Amy Sedaris), while notable films and television programs in which she's appeared include The Extra Man, A Dirty Shame, Garden State, Legally Blonde II, Kissing Jessica Stein, and Mo' Money, plus "30 Rock," "One Life to Live," "Starved," " Hope and Faith," "Curb Your Enthusiasm," "Strangers with Candy," "TV Funhouse," "Late Night with Conan O'Brien," " Soulman," and "Cosby."
