Actor Lee Pelty, who was best known for starring in the lead role of Tevye the Milkman in "Fiddler on the Roof", died Sunday from lung cancer at the age of 74.
He was a guest on the Talk Theatre In Chicago podcast in 2007 where he talked about his great career on stage including being in such great shows as "Man of La Mancha", "Zorba", "Mack and Mabel" and of course "Fiddler on the Roof" which he has preformed thousands of times. In the interview he talks about how he originally landed the role of Tevye at the Candlelight Music Theatre in 1971 by begging for a chance to audition and putting on a fat suit for director Bill Pullinsi for the role. After the audition Bill just said "how much do you want". He also talks about his "off stage" stint as the stadium announcer for the Chicago Cubs.
Lee Pelty was a great actor and entertainer and will be missed.
