Amadeus at Steppenwolf Theatre

The timeless story centers on the legendary rivalry between composers Antonio Salieri and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, set in the glittering and turbulent world of 18th-century Vienna. Steppenwolf ensemble member Ian Barford (Another Marriage, The Minutes, August: Osage County) stars as Salieri, opposite David Darrow, making his Steppenwolf debut as Mozart. The large 18-member cast also includes ensemble members Robert Breuler, Cliff Chamberlain, Ora Jones, and Yasen Peyankov, along with a host of talented newcomers to the company.

"Vienna: a cacophony of music and intrigue. The emperor's composer, Antonio Salieri, holds court until the flamboyant entrance of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: prodigy and wild child. The two artists begin a vicious and thrilling duet, a rivalry that will define their lives and legacies for years to come," reads the production summary. "Winner of 5 Tonys and 8 Academy Awards, Amadeus is the ultimate ode to ambition and musical genius, a brilliant requiem for a villain in history - but a hero in his own story. Vi saluto!"

Steppenwolf's Artistic Directors Glenn Davis and Audrey Francis said, "We're thrilled to welcome so many ensemble members back to their artistic home, as well as this team of extraordinary performers who round out this remarkable cast. To serve as the company's artistic leaders during Bob Falls's Steppenwolf directorial debut is an honor and feels like a true commitment to recognizing the incredible history of Chicago's theatrical landscape."

The creative team includes Todd Rosenthal (scenic design), Amanda Gladu (costume design), Eric Southern (lighting design), and Connor Wang (sound design), with original music by Mikhail Fiksel. Other contributors include Kristina Fluty (intimacy consultant), Nick Sandys (fight consultant), and Kate DeVore (dialect and voice coach). Dramaturgy is provided by Bryar Barborka and Jonathan L. Green, with Patrick Zakem as creative producer and Tom Pearl as producing director. JC Clementz, CSA, handled casting, and the production stage management team includes Laura D. Glenn and Jaclynn Joslin.

As the rivalry between Mozart and Salieri unfolds onstage, Amadeus promises a sweeping mix of passion, jealousy, and genius - a masterwork brought to life by one of Chicago's most iconic theatre companies.
