After a 3.5 year absence, the hit musical HAMILTON is returning to Chicago this fall. Starting on September 13, 2023, the show will be playing at the James M. Nederlander Theatre in Chicago. The news was announced by Broadway in Chicago and has been met with great excitement from theater-goers across the city. Fans of the show have been eagerly awaiting its return and can now look forward to seeing it again live in person.
"We welcome HAMILTON back to its Chicago home, thrilled to present the return of this brilliant award-winning modern Broadway classic," said Lou Raizin, President of Broadway In Chicago.
HAMILTON is a contemporary retelling of America's story. This innovative musical incorporates hip-hop, jazz, R&B and Broadway into its captivating score, as it follows the life of Alexander Hamilton, an immigrant from the West Indies who became George Washington's right-hand man during the Revolutionary War and was the country's inaugural Treasury Secretary. This groundbreaking production has had a tremendous impact on culture, politics, and education.
It is an award-winning musical, with music, lyrics and book by Lin-Manuel Miranda, direction by Thomas Kail, choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler and musical supervision and orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire. The show is based on the acclaimed biography of Ron Chernow and has been awarded Tony Awards, Grammy Awards, Olivier Awards, the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and a special citation from the Kennedy Center Honors.
HAMILTON first debuted in Chicago at the CIBC Theatre in September 2016, running for a total of 171 weeks and 1,341 performances. The show attracted an audience of over 2.6 million theatregoers.
This time, the national touring production of HAMILTON (with a new set of actors) will be playing at James M. Nederlander Theatre (24 W. Randolph St.), which is larger than its original Chicago home at CIBC Theatre, with 2,253 seats instead of the 1,800.
Casting, performance schedule, and individual ticket sales for HAMILTON will be announced later this year.
