List of Chicago Theatre Events Canceled/Postponed Due to Coronavirus


Canceled Shows In Chicago Because of CoronavirusTheatres across the Chicago-area are canceling or postponing their shows in response to conerns over the novel coronavirus, otherwise known as COVID-19.

We will continuously be updating this page with any news of the cancellation or the postponments of shows.

-Goodman Theatre: Has suspended all performances until further notice. This includes "School Girls; Or, The African Mean Girls Play" and "Molly Sweeney".

-Steppenwolf Theatre: Cancelling the remaining performances of "Bug" as well as the remaining performances of "I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter". Also cancelled are the remaining performances of "Plano" in the 1700 Theatre. "The Most Spectacularly Lamentable Trial of Miz Martha Washington", which was slated to run April 2 - May 17, will now be produced in the 2021/22 season.

-Drury Lane Theatre - Oakbrook: Will be closing from March 13 until May 1. "An American in Paris", "Evita" and "Shrek the Musical" will all be affected.

-Paramount Theatre: "The Secret of My Success" will be closed early. The theater also announced it has postponed "STOMP" which was scheduled for April. Postponed "Kinky Boots until June 30 - August 15, 2021.

-Court Theatre: Has cancelled its next production of "The Lady from the Sea," as well as a postponement of the remaining run of "An Iliad".

-Apollo Theatre: Announced a three-month postponement of "Be More Chill" which will now begin July 7.

-Royal George Theatre: "Hit Her With the Skates" has announced it is suspending performances effective immediately. Preview performances will resume April 12.

-Auditorium Theatre: Has cancelled all performances for the next 30 days. That includes scheduled performances by illusionist Shin Lim, American Ballet Theatre, and Shen Yun.

-Porchlight Music Theatre: Is postponing its 25th Anniversary ICONS Gala honoring Broadway legend Joel Grey scheduled for Monday, March 23, at the Ritz-Carlton. The rescheduled date will be announced at a later time.

-Trap Door Theater: Has suspended the run of "Lipstick Lobotomy" and postponed its production of "The Water Hen".

-The Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association (CSOA): Announced that all CSOA-presented concerts at Symphony Center scheduled through at least the next 30 days are cancelled.

-Marriott Theatre: Has cancelled the remaining performances of "Grease" and "The Princess & The Pea".

-Harris Theater:
Has cancelled all planned events and performances through April 12.

-The Second City: Made the difficult decision to suspend all Chicago performances 3/13 through 3/26 or until further notice.

-Jackalope Theatre: Will be suspending performances of "Fast Company", effective immediately.

-Chicago Shakespeare Theater: Has cancelled the remainder of the run of "Emma".

-Raven Theatre: "A Doll's House" and ""Aesop's Amazing Adventures n the Land of Fables" have been cancelled. "Eden Prairie, 1971", originally scheduled for May 7 - June 21, 2020 will be postponed.

-Griffin Theatre: Remaining performances of "Mlima's Tale" have been cancelled.

-Little Time Theatre Co.: The production of "Clementine" will be postponed to a later date..

-Lookingglass Theatre: Has closed "Her Honor Jane Byrne".

-Cirque du Soleil: Has cancelled their show "Alegria" which was to run from June 5 - June 28 Under The Big Top at Soldier Field.

-Writers Theatre: Cancelling the final four perfrmances of "Stick Fly" and suspending performances of "The Last Match" until April 15.

-The New Colony: Canceling production of "Under The Tree" which was scheduled to run April 1 - May 3 at the Den Theatre.

-Theatre At The Center: Suspends performances beginning Friday, March 13 through April 29.

-Broadway In Chicago: Has suspending their performances. "The Bachelor Live on Stage" has been rescheduled for Saturday, October 10, 2020. "KEANE - Cause and Effect Tour" has been postponed to a future date. "My Fair Lady" has been rescheduled to May 12 - 23, 2021. The remaining performances of "What the Constitution Means to Me" have been cancelled. "Once Upon A One More Time" has been cancelled. "The Choir of Man" has been rescheduled to February 2 - 7, 2021. "The Crown - Live!" has been rescheduled to February 23 - 28, 2021. "The Simon & Garfunkel Story" has been rescheduled to December 1 - 6, 2020. "The Office! A Musical Parody has been rescheduled to February 9 - 21, 2021. "Goshen" has been cancelled. "Waitress" has been rescheduled to February 16 - 21, 2021.

-Northlight Theatre: Will suspend performances of "Intimate Apparel", effective immediately. The change in schedule will also likely affect the upcoming show "Songs for Nobodies."

-Metropolis Performing Arts Centre: Cancelled the closing performances for "Noises Off". Additionally, they are postponing all performances for four weeks.

-The Den Theatre: Announced it will close its doors effective immediately and cancel all performances through Sunday, April 12, 2020. The closure includes The Haven Lounge.

-Victory Gardens Theater: Canceling the world premiere run of "Dhaba on Devon Avenue."

-Lyric Opera: Cancelled all three Ring cycles, the preceding two performances of GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG, and all RING Festival programming.

-A Red Orchid: Will close "Do You Feel Anger?" after the performance on March 13. Postponed "The Moors" to a future date.

-Congo Square Theatre: Canceled the remaining two week of "Day of Absence" at Victory Gardens Theatre.

-House Theatre of Chicago: Will be cancelling the extension of "Verboten", as well as their upcoming production of "Henry V" at the Chopin Theatre venue. Our annual fundraising event, The Spectacular, will not occur as planned. "The Last Defender", which hosts small groups no greater than 16 at the Chicago Board Game Cafe, will continue with weekend game times.

-Lifeline Theatre: Has postponed productions of "Middle Passage" and "Neither" until April 13.

-Kokandy Productions: Will postpone "Hundred Days" to a future date.

-The Comrades: Have cancelled all remaining remaining performances of "The Layover"

-Chicago Children's Theatre: Canceling all remaining performances of "Red Kite, Brown Box." They are also postponing their planned spring Chicago premiere of "Me...Jane: The Dreams & Adventures of a Young Jane Goodall" until fall 2020.

-Shattered Globe Theatre: Will cancel the remaining performances of "Sheepdog."

-Annoyance Theatre: Theatre is closed until further notice.

-Black Ensemble Theatre: Suspending all performances of "The Healing" effective March 13. Performances may resume in 30 days.

-TimeLine Theatre: Canceling all remaining performances of "Kill Move Paradise", effective immediately.

-Silent Theatre Company:
Canceling all remaining performances of "Incomplete Conversations"

-Music Theatre Works: Will postpone their annual gala scheduled for April 4th, 2020.

-Connective Theatre Company: "Morning In America" will will open as planned on March 13 but will play one weekend only and close March 15.

-Interrobang Theatre Project: Canceled remaining performances of "Here Lies Henry."

-Chicago Kids Company: Suspending performances until April 12.

-The Actors Gymnasium: Canceled remaining performances of "The Ghost In Gadsden's Garden."

-Mercury Theater Chicago:
"Shear Madness" has cancelled the remaining performances. The opening of "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" will be postponed for 30 days until Friday, April 24th.

-City Lit: Canceled remaining performances of "Thirteen Days."

-Promethean Theatre Ensemble:
Cancelled all remaining performances of "Mrs. Warren's Profession."

-PM&L Theatre: Closed for public events through April 13th.

-The Gift Theatre: Suspended Performances of "The Pillowman."

-The Plagiarists: Cancelled this weekend's final performances of "Poison."

-Chicago Dramatists: As of March 14, all events at the theater and the Literacenter are cancelled for the next two weeks.

-Idle Muse Theatre Company: Cancelled performancesof "In the Next Room..."

-Blank Theatre Company: Postponed their production of " Nine."

-Theo Ubique: Suspending performances of "Grey Gardens" for the foreseeable future.

-Jedlicka Performing Arts: Cancelled their run of "Just Like Us."

-Cabinet of Curiosity: Has cancelled their production of "The Farewell Fables" which recently opened at Links Hall.

-Odd's Bodkins: The final weekend performances of "The Wayward War" have been cancelled.

-Blue Man Group: Blue Man Group will be suspending their performances at the Briar Street Theatre beginning March 16.

-Theatre Above the Law:
Will be delaying the opening of "Ghosts of Chernobyl." It will open April 9th and hopefully continue its scheduled run at that time through April 26th.

-Cornservatory: The show "Rosie's Variety Hour" and "Death is so Much Worse" have been cancelled. "Pie Tanic": Scheduled to open Saturday, March 14th, will be postponed for a minimum of two weeks. Upcoming productions of "Titus Andronikids" and "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)" will open as scheduled.

-Medieval Times: Has temporarily closed down.

-Pride Films & Plays: Cancelled remaining performances of "Five Encounters On A Site Called Craigslist" and "Dex & Abby."

-Theater Wit: Cancelled live performances of "Teenage Dick." A recorded performance available for streaming.

-Neo-Futurists: Have suspended performances of "The Infinite Wrench."

-MPAACT: Postponed " Pulled Punches", which was scheduled for April 17-May 30 at the Greenhouse Theater Center.

-16th Street Theater: Cancelled "Methtacular!" which was to run from Match 19 - April 4.

-Pan's Flute Productions:
Postponed their April production of "Poisoned: A Snow White Rock Musical" at Stage 773.

-Teatro Vista: Postponing their production of "The Dream King", originally scheduled to perform in April and May.

-PlayMakers Laboratory: Announced it will postpone its annual benefit "Fancy Schmancy: A Gala of Living Art", originally scheduled for Saturday, April 4.

-AstonRep Theatre Company: Cancelled their production of "When We Were Young and Unafraid."

-Silk Road Rising: Announced the cancellation of their production of "My Dear Hussein".

-Otherworld Theatre: Postponed the final two weekends of "The Trip to Bountiful", as well as their upcoming Princess Concert.

-Adventure Stage Chicago: Cancelled their production of "Ghost" which was to run from Apr 25 - May 3 at the Vittum Theater.

-Tuta Theatre: Announced it will cancel the remaining performances of its world premiere adaptation of "Hedda Gabler: A Play with Live Music"

-ComedySportz:
Currently closed and will reassess in the future to when it will open again.

-Drunk Shakespeare: Closed until further notice.

-Theatre Momentum: Cancelled the remaining performances of "Multiple Exposure"

-Underscore Theatre Company: Postponed the upcoming "March Madness Tiny Storefront Concert Series" and their spring production of "Notes & Letters"

-Teatro ZinZanni: Teatro ZinZanni at Spiegeltent ZaZou in Chicago is on hiatus as of March 15.

-Chicago Opera Theater: Postponed the rest of their 2019-20 season.

-Skokie Theatre: All shows scheduled at Skokie Theatre between now and April 15 have been moved to new dates or cancelled.

-Elgin Theatre Company: Cancelled the upcoming production of "The Tin Women"

-The Shakespeare Project of Chicago:
Postponed "Measure For Measure," that was scheduled for May 15-21, 2020.

-Village Theatre Guild: Postponed the opening of their next production, "Mothers and Sons"

-Surging Films & Theatrics: Postponed "Next To Normal" until August 2020.

-Eclipse Theatre Company: Postponing the opening of "Cloud 9"

-Remy Bumppo Theatre Company: Postponing their upcoming production of "The Agitators"

-On The Spot Theatre Company: Postponed the opening of "The More Things Change"

-Artemisia: Postponed their production of "Every Waiting Heart" until Fall of 2020.

-Saint Sebastian Players: Postponing their production of "Born Yesterday", originally scheduled April 24-May 17

-Strawdog Theatre: Postponing "Welcome to Keene, New Hampshire, originally scheduled to run April 17 - May 30 to a future date.
