Irving Berlin's White Christmas Reviews
Irving Berlin's White Christmas
Chicago Reader - Somewhat Recommended
"...This year, Music Theater Works tackles the show with director Sasha Gerritson at the helm. The production shines a harsh light on the story and characters’ baked-in flaws while failing to make its signature, lavish, all-important dance numbers shine."

"...Irving Berlin’s White Christmas is a classic music theater piece that reminds us of one of the Greatest Generation storylines: the bonds that formed in World War II were deep ones for men, and the holidays are a good time to show people you care. For this holiday season, Music Theater Works is serving up a bountiful buffet of cheer, Berlin’s iconic tunes and a whole lot of big beautiful dance numbers at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts and it’s entertainment for all the generations in your clan."

"...There is nothing like a holiday classic, and what production could be more "holiday" than "Irving Berlin's White Christmas". Based on the Paramount movie, with a revised book by David Ives & Paul Blake and music & lyrics by Irving Berlin, the stage version allows us to use our imagination to see people as they are. Back in the day, Hollywood's musicals were amazing and spectacles. The stage version is never the same."

"...The holiday season is off to a wintery wonderland of delight in Skokie. Music Theater Works happily returns to what it once did best: producing a good, old-fashioned classic, complete with all the bells and whistles. The show's brought to life by a gloriously gifted orchestra and features a multitalented cast of performers. It's a sweet treat of a production, filled with familiar tunes from the Irving Berlin songbook, and performed with plenty of panache and pizzazz. Sasha Gerritson's direction feels fresh and contemporary, although the show's vintage and a bit corny, because she has seasoned it with just the right amount of sentimentality and heart. It's a warm, glittery production, perfect for all ages, and just a joyful cup of entertainment eggnog for a Chicagoland Christmas."

"...White Christmas has all the makings for a feel-good Christmas classic. We get the swell of the music and the happy ending as Bob and Phil swoop Betty and Judy off their feet and dip them into a swoon worthy kiss as snow falls delicately from the ceiling."
