And while nobody gets exactly what they might want in that moment, they somehow find some gossamer threads of connection. One can take exception, perhaps, with the way that O’Reilly at first seemingly makes light work of mental illness and political activism in his characters. But the point of so many of his plays, which laudably never turn characters into mere mouthpieces for their author, is that what we all need, first and foremost, is to be heard—whether our words hit like a flower or a stick."
