Gut Punch: A new play
5545 N Clark St Chicago
Journalist Mac returns home to care for her mother, Camille, an acerbic, retired academic with an indeterminate chronic illness. When Mac discovers that her mother has joined a pain management group under the guidance of a charismatic (and expensive) leader, Mac resolves to expose the program as a scam. Instead, the group's stories, and Mac's own wounds, complicate her convictions. Gut Punch explores pain, both inherited and self-inflicted, the increasingly difficult fight for our well-being, and the communities we create - in support groups, in dysfunctional families, and inside the human gut
