Gage Wallace's Dylan has twinkly eyed charm, though the necessary incendiary jealous chemistry between him and Brittany Ellis' Caitlin never quite catches fire. As Brinnin, Casey Chapman brings out the exasperation of a fan who increasingly finds his idol lacking in basic decency. Fans of Dylan Thomas shouldn't miss this seldom-revived work. But instead of raging against the dying of the light, "Dylan" tends to register strongly worded protests."

"...Sidney Michaels's 1964 script, masterfully staged here under director Aaron Sawyer for Red Theater, takes some license with the facts, but to poetic effect. Bringing comic genius and nuance to the title role, Gage Wallace creates a devastating portrait of the poet in simultaneous triumph and decline. The show's one distraction is a baffling intermission changeover, which moves the audience onto Janette Bauer's simple, versatile set and the action onto the risers. Maybe we're meant to put ourselves in Thomas's shoes, but I'd rather just be able to see them."

But what is really missing in the script, solidly staged by director Aaron Sawyer, are more opportunities for Wallace to deliver Thomas's own words.
