Dry Powder Reviews
Dry Powder
Buzz Center Stage - Highly Recommended
"...In the sharp-tongued world of Sarah Burgess’s Dry Powder, presented by Gwydion Theatre Company at the Greenhouse Theater Center, the pursuit of money is a blood sport. The play centers on a high-stakes private equity firm caught in a massive public relations nightmare after laying off thousands of grocery store workers the same week its co-founder threw a flashy engagement party featuring an elephant – but it was just one elephant!"
Third Coast Review - Recommended
"...Smart dialogue delivered at a brisk clip makes Dry Powder fit right into its Manhattan business office setting. The four-character play, now being staged by Gwydion Theatre, is the story of a private equity firm intent on buying a small west coast manufacturer. The 2016 satire by Sarah Burgess is directed by Ellie Thomson. The script tells what might be considered a complex story, but the dialogue is well written and the play offers humor as well as drama."
Werner's Theatre Reviews - Somewhat Recommended
"...Gwydion Theatre Company concludes its 3rd season with Sarah Burgess’ farcical play, Dry Powder. Premiering at New York City’s Public Theater in 2016, the company describes the play as examining the ruthless nature of the 1% through its portrayal of executives focused on maximizing profit at any cost. While the cast delivers decent performances and the play features themes of capitalism, the script and its presentation fail to leave a lasting impact."
