"...This year, Drury Lane doesn't have an outright seasonal attraction but instead is staging "Cinderella," a princess musical that, in my experience, always encourages audience members to amp up the fashion. When the kid is wearing a tiara and a gown, and many were Thursday night, parents don't feel right accompanying them in jeans. Consequently, it's a lovely sight."

"...Magic glimmers throughout “Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella,” bedazzling the stage through Jan. 9 at the Drury Lane Theatre. With songs like “Do I Love You Because You’re Beautiful” and “Impossible,” Richard Rodgers’ score and Oscar Hammerstein’s lyrics are beyond reproach, pure romance in auditory form from sweeping overture to the soaring finale."

"...Drury Lane Theatre's revival of "Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella" is easy on the ears and on the eyes. Lovely to behold and even lovelier to hear, director/choreographer Amber Mak's fetching, prettily sung production (with music direction by Carolyn Brady) is the 2013 Broadway version of the Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein musical confection that premiered on television in 1957 with Julie Andrews in the titular role."

"...This is a great show for kids, but some in the audience started to get restless towards the end. The script here features a few extra story beats to flesh out the original 75-minute teleplay-Ella makes two trips to the palace here, and there were a few times the story felt like it was ending but just kept going. A subplot about bringing class consciousness to the kingdom was at times ham-handed. But this Cinderella's overall theme-making the effort to treat everyone around you with kindness-is something that both kids and adults could stand to hear more of right now."

"...Interestingly, despite being a famous production, Drury Lane's Cinderella, a new book by Douglas Carter Beane, only made it to Broadway in 2013. But even with its celebrated reach, its confusing additions and new songs will have some purists asking why it deviated from perfection. But why not?"

"...Stand back , this is not the Disney “Cinderella” that you are used to! There is no Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo in this version, but there is magic in the air and on the stage. This version with a book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and music by Richard Rodgers ( and a new book by Douglas Carter Beane) tells us pretty much the same story, but in a unique and different way. Directed and choreographed to perfection by Amber Mak with musical direction by Carolyn Brady, this is true “family theater”. It was nice to see many little girls dressed in their “Cinderella” ball gowns, with tiaras. Watching their faces during the show was an extra treat for me, and intermission was special as they laughed and giggled about what they had witnessed. This is what makes theater so special!"

"...An absolutely awesome production that sports expert direction and choreography by the marvelous Amber Mak, a newly trimmed-down script that's the perfect length for young theatergoers, a superb cast of talented triple-threats who totally impress, and the kind of technical support that makes jaws drop all await in Oakbrook. This family-friendly confection is a great choice for the holidays. The Drury Lane Theatre is all decked out in its elegant Christmas finery, creating photo ops in a Winter Wonderland before the performance. The favorite fairy tale of Cinderella and her Prince comes to life on the Drury Lane stage. Entire families can enjoy this musical spectacle of sight and sound, and mothers and daughters can reconnect with their inner princesses. Theatergoers of all ages will find enough happiness here to fill a dozen pair of glass slippers."

"...You have always been a terrific storyteller with the most dulcet voice and found others equally talented to share and sing with you. "In My Own Little Corner" has been a forever favorite of mine, and you continue to sing it gloriously. "Ten Minutes Ago," "A Lovely Night" and "Do I Love You Because You're Beautiful?" are truly stunning. Music soothes your soul and those souls touched by your song. Please keep on singing. (Music, Richard Rodgers; original book and lyrics, Oscar Hammerstein II; orchestrations, Danny Troob; music adaptations and arrangements, David Chase; music direction, Carolyn Brady.)"

"...Freshening up a classic tale can be a fraught business, but when Douglas Carter Beane updated the book of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s 1957 Cinderella for a Broadway run in 2013, he made the message relevant for 21st-century audiences while retaining all of the magic of a story popularized in 17th-century France. Drury Lane’s production."

"...And truly the best part is the way the new script contrives to give more meetings between Cinderella and the Prince. They develop an actual relationship where they have substantive conversations and fall in love. It gives the songs they sing much more impact."
