Chicago Reader - Somewhat Recommended

"...Allen relies on classic show tunes like Cole Porter's "Let's Misbehave" to do most of the heavy lifting, so it's up to the cast to sell this period pastiche. None lack enthusiasm, but only Monica Szaflik as fading diva Helen Sinclair comes close to bringing it home. Kevin Bellie directed and choreographed this NightBlue production."

"..."Fish out of water" humor meets showbiz stereotypes-that's the gag-winning formula in the 1994 film Bullets Over Broadway, starring John Cusack, Jennifer Tilly, Diane Wiest, Mary-Louis Parker, and a wonderful Chazz Palminteri. It was Woody Allen's twisted Valentine to the "Great White Way" and the flappers, gangsters and dreamers who made the 20s roar. Two worlds collide-the thug life and marquee society-and, to paraphrase one of its rousers, "T'ain't Nobody's Biz-ness If It Do.""

Around The Town Chicago - Somewhat Recommended

"...Under the direction and choreography of Kevin Bellie this production has some powerful dance numbers ( some great tap dancing which to me always adds something special to a musical), but the stage at Stage 773 , despite a unique set designed by Bob Knuth, just doesn't seem large enough to make the dance numbers shine as they ought to. I will say that Belie has put together a solid ensemble of performers, but they do not "fit" and in some cases their characters have no chemistry with the others."

NewCity Chicago - Somewhat Recommended

"...Director-choreographer Kevin Bellie, usually a production's key to a Jeff Award-headed hit, falters here: This show is beleaguered by stylistically inappropriate pacing, cumbersome casting and athletic dancing that asks too much of the talent on hand, particularly when dancing in unison. Nothing is so obvious as hoofers who can't match each other while doing the same step."

"...Director and choreographer Kevin Bellie sets the right tone for this madcap microcosm. Right from the get-go, his projection design tommy guns the show's logo into being. Bellie wisely lets the characterizations be caricatures in what is ultimately a spoof of gangster flicks and movie musicals. The choreography is spot-on, and perhaps the most entertaining and excellently-executed element of the production. This cast can tap and kick in time like nobody's business."

"...The music alone in BULLETS OVER BROADWAY should be enough to get any jazz lover in the seats. Allen incorporated many popular jazz hits into the score like "Let's Misbehave" by Cole Porter and "Gee, Baby, Ain't I Good to You" made famous by the The King Cole Trio."

LeBon Travel and Culture - Highly Recommended

"...This is the kind of show that once was the rage of Broadway-a comic musical that has one laughing while tapping one's toes to great tunes. Indeed, Bullets Over Broadway is an entertaining, old-fashioned, romantic musical that has become a rarity today. Indeed, that's why Woody Allen's tribute to yesteryear's great White Way is such a treat."
