Beehive at Metropolis Performing Arts Centre

Metropolis Performing Arts Centre
111 West Campbell Street Arlington Heights

From solo powerhouses like Aretha Franklin and Janis Joplin to glamorous girl groups such as The Supremes and The Shirelles, Beehive: The '60s Musical pays tribute to a time on the charts when women artists were all the buzz. This retro revue is packed with timeless tunes like "My Boyfriend's Back," "One Fine Day" and "Respect," as well as authentic costumes and, of course, plenty of wigs, as it recreates that revolutionary era in popular music when songs like "Where the Boys Are," "Downtown" and "Proud Mary" blasted from jukeboxes and car radios. Relive the heyday of pop queens like Tina Turner, Brenda Lee, Carole King and more when Beehive brings its high-energy stage show to the Metropolis Performing Arts Centre in Arlington Heights.

Daily Herald - Somewhat Recommended

"...A frothy homage to 1960s girl groups and female solo artists, the tuneful, undemanding "Beehive" features pop and R&B tunes made famous by the likes of The Ronettes, Lesley Gore, The Chiffons and The Supremes. Created in 1985 by the late New York City booking agent Larry Gallagher, "Beehive" is as sweet as cotton candy and about as filling."

Around The Town Chicago - Somewhat Recommended

"...On the heels of the last production at the Metropolis Performing Arts Centre in Arlington Heights, I was sort of looking forward to "Beehive: The 60's Musical". After all, their "Avenue Q" was sterling. I even invited some friends ( who also loved that show) to join us. We were disappointed, to say the least. This is truly not a musical play, but is in fact more of a tribute to the music and mostly female performers of the 1960's Ladies like Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Lesley Gore, Connie Francis, The Shirelles, Tina Turner and then as we moved forward in time into the 1970's Janis Joplin and the "peace movement" handled by Halle Bins to perfection."

Chicagoland Musical Theatre - Recommended

"...Many of these theatergoers are diehard groupies of specific kinds of music or artists, and often much more forgiving toward things like contrived plot lines or underdeveloped characters. For this kind of fan, it's his or her personal connection to the music which is most important. Beehive will definitely delight this kind of audience, as well as anyone who grew up loving the girl groups and divas of the sixties."
